Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the first human recipient of Neuralink’s implant is recovering well. The initial results show encouraging signs of neuron spike detection, a critical aspect of the technology’s functionality.

Neuralink’s BCI aims to decode brain activity signals to control external devices like computers. Musk envisions a future where individuals can control phones or computers merely by thinking. Regulatory Approval and Human Trials

In September, Neuralink received FDA approval to begin human trials. The company’s PRIME study seeks volunteers with quadriplegia due to spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Candidates must be at least 22 years old and commit to an 18-month study period, with continued participation expected for five years.

The N1 Implant: A Technological Marvel

The N1 implant, central to the study, features 1,024 electrodes across 64 threads thinner than a human hair. This advanced implant records and transmits neural activity to a mobile app, aiming to enable patients to control computers with their thoughts. Designed to be cosmetically invisible, the N1 represents a leap forward in BCI technology.
