VSFG Sets Eyes on Ethereum ETF
Venture Smart Financial Holdings Ltd. (VSFG), based in Hong Kong, is gearing up to extend its footprint in the cryptocurrency ETF market. Following its ambition to launch a spot bitcoin ETF in the first quarter, the firm now aims to apply for a spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the second quarter of the year.
Final Stages of Bitcoin ETF Application
In a recent discussion with The Block, Lawrence Chu, Chairman of VSFG, shared insights into the firm’s strategic plans. He highlighted that VSFG is on the cusp of officially submitting its spot bitcoin ETF application to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, indicating a crucial milestone in the regulatory process.
Regulatory Dialogue Precedes Application Submission
Chu emphasized the significance of comprehensive regulatory discussions in Hong Kong, which often precede the formal application process. “The submission phase essentially marks a 95% completion towards the application,” he explained, underscoring the thoroughness of the regulatory engagement.
Ethereum ETF on the Horizon
Looking ahead, Chu revealed that VSFG is preparing for a second-quarter application for a spot Ethereum ETF, contingent upon the successful approval and listing of its bitcoin ETF. The initiative underscores VSFG’s proactive approach to expanding its cryptocurrency ETF offerings, aligning with regulatory discussions and market readiness.
Hong Kong’s Crypto ETF Landscape
The move by VSFG comes as multiple fund companies in Hong Kong are exploring the launch of spot crypto ETFs. Livio Weng, COO of HashKey, noted the burgeoning interest among fund managers in the city, potentially leading to competitive fee structures similar to those in the U.S. market.
Collaborative Approach in the ETF Ecosystem
Chu also touched on the collaborative nature of VSFG’s strategy, aiming to support other ETF issuers in bridging knowledge gaps and fulfilling licensing requirements in the digital asset space. “Our role is more of a facilitator, helping issuers navigate the digital asset landscape,” he stated, positioning VSFG as a key player in fostering a competitive and diverse ETF ecosystem in Hong Kong.
